Zines: a love letter

Zine: stemming from MagaZINE
especially
: a noncommercial often homemade or online publication usually devoted to specialized and often unconventional subject matter

Making your own books and magazines has always interested me. Collaborating with others can also be a fun and rewarding experience. The following are some self-published zines that I have Illustrated and produced myself, while others have been part of a collaborative effort celebrating a fandom.

Feybruary Cover

Into The Faery Ring:
A Feybruary zine

Full color 8 page long illustrated zine. It includes 16 illustrations of various plant based Fairies I drew digitally in the month of Feburary 2020. I love the visual style for these, I’m pretty pleased with how they turned out.

The cover is transparent vellum and shows the color of the yellow first page through the print.

Prompt List: @C.A Gaspar and @Hikari_Smoked_Bacon's Feyburary List

Monster Girls: Drawtober Zine

Monster Girl

Monster Girls is a full color 16 page illustrated zine. It includes 33 illustrations of various Monster Girls I drew and colored Traditionally in the month of October 2018, following the #31monstergirls2018 prompt list.

The cover is a pearlescent white and has a wonderful sparkle to it when shifted in the light.

Kick The Night Off:

A Ranma 1/2 Fanzine

This is a collection of 20 illustrations and 4 stories. The theme is “Boys/Girls night” and focuses on the boys/ girls spending time together. Enjoy 50+ pages of nights out on the town, prank calls, cheesy sleepovers and more!

I was able to collaborate with many wonderful artist and writers to bring this fanzine to life. Ranma 1/2 was always a manga series I remember checking out at the library. And even today, while re-reading it still is quite fun, if a little outdated as far as queer representation and transgender/genderqueer concepts go.

Ode to the Void:

A nonprofit fanzine focused around the Dishonored video game franchise. The aim of the zine is to celebrate what we, the fandom, love about the games 8 years on from Dishonored’s initial release.

Dishonored is one of my favorite games, the story and world is so interesting and fun. The visual style stands it apart from other first-person stealth games, and the mystical powers and mythology in game are super satisfying. There are so many wonderful art pieces and stories included in this zine I hope you will check it out!

The colors in this series can be grey and desaturated, but that just makes the visual impact of the times it does overload the scene with color even more satisfying.

Blues, Purples, and Turquoise are often used as highly saturated tones throughout the series, so I made sure I incorporated it into my final piece.

Tyro Malefica (Beginner Magic) is a collection of digitally painted drawings I did for the month of October in 2019. It follows the exploits of Reap and his blue jay friend Lucian, as they go about their school time activities.
